Kali Puja

Idol at pandal off S.C Bose Road, Kolkata

Kali Puja is celebrated in Kolkata with lot of enthusiasm and number of community pujas are organised by clubs around the city. The pictures on this blog are from various Puja's organised this year. They are loaded as we get them !! Ma Kali, the Goddess of destruction, has enjoyed a significant presence in the Hindu culture and she is prayed as the epitome of ‘shakti’ or cosmic power. A fearless goddess, her idol has four arms, with a severed head on one hand, sword on the other, a garland of skulls around her neck and one foot on her husband’s chest. The other two hands bless the worshipper saying 'fear not'. She is protector of all evils and the source of all eternal energies. Ma Kali is the Goddess who is said to take away darkness, impurities, and purifies her devotees with the sincerity of her blessings.
