Saline water seeps farm fields in Sunderbans

Farm fields in the Sunderbans area of South 24 Parganas could be rendered uncultivable as saline water has seeped into them after Aila damaged river embankments in these areas. Even water level has come down but farm fields still have saline water which needs to be pumped out. At many places like in the picture river embakements virtually is non existent so with high tide (like the one expected today) water may enter the villages again.
