Dakshineswar Temple


Dakshineswar Temple or Kali temple located on banks of Hooghly in Kolkata. This three storeyed temple, facing south is built in traditional 'Nava-ratna' style of Bengal architecture. It has enormous courtyard and was founded on the 31st of May,1855. A series of 12 identical Shiva temples are within the premises and are close to the banks of the river. The interior of the Shiva temples is done in white and black stone and each of the temples houses Shiva lingas done in black stone. The temples face the east and are constructed in the typical ‘Aat Chala’ Bengal architecture. The Temple is situated alongside the Vivekananda Bridge, which is in picture.
