High speed winds hits Kolkata



Fifteen people injured and five deaths have been reported from Kolkata, where normal life has been hit as storm ripped through Kolkata, North & South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Burdwan and East Midnapore district of the state of West Bengal. All flights to Kolkata have been disrupted, train services hampered and tram services have been halted. A South Eastern Railway spokesman told media persons that allen trees have blocked tracks at four stations in the Kharagpur-Howrah section, leaving several passenger trains stranded. The storm has killed at least 19 people and affected a population of 1.10 lakh in the state. (In picture - uprooted trees, electric pole and traffic jam in Kolkata streets due to the storm)
